Lelydorp / highway approach — hospital branch
Regional hospital in Wanica, relevant to the corridor's southern city approach. Call to confirm care availability. Address / area: Vredenburgweg serie B 39, Lelydorp
Local rules
Access: Reachable by paved road from Paramaribo (~30 min) via the Indira Gandhiweg/East-West Corridor. From the MLK Highway corridor (your route), RZW at Lelydorp is the closest hospital to the corridor's start — well before Bergendal and ~90 minutes closer than anything else on the way to Brownsweg. Visiting: Standard hospital rules — visiting hours apply (check at reception, +597 372-600), ID required for patient registration; non-residents pay for care unless covered by arrangement — bring passport/insurance details. Referral reality: RZW handles emergency intake and stabilization, but complex trauma, cardiac, and ICU cases are transferred to Paramaribo. For the Brownsweg–Pokigron corridor, this is effectively the last full hospital before the hinterland; beyond it, only the Brownsweg MZ clinic (single doctor) exists. Language: Services in Dutch; some staff speak Sranan Tongo, English, and (given the Chinese-funded staffing exchange) Mandarin-speaking personnel may be present. Practical: Fuel, ATM, and supplies all in Lelydorp proper; the hospital sits in the Vredenburg area southeast of Lelydorp center — navigate to "Vredenburg Serie B."

Safety protocols to read before you travel
A01Guided activitiesUse a guide who knows the route and explains the safety arrangements.
Choose a guide through an established operator and ask about route experience, training, equipment and emergency arrangements. Follow the safety briefing, stay with the group and do not undertake an unfamiliar activity alone. Stop when conditions become unsafe.

A03Water recreation and river hazardsCheck physical hazards and fresh-water health risks before an activity.
Ask the guide about currents, rocks, water levels and safe access before any water activity. Wear suitable flotation equipment for boating. Do not dive into unfamiliar water or enter rapids to swim or bathe, and keep children under close supervision. CDC advises avoiding swimming in unchlorinated rivers, lakes and ponds in Suriname because fresh water can carry infections. A locally designated swimming spot does not establish water quality.
