Martin Luther Kingweg / Highway
Highway supermarket, distinct from the similarly named Kernkampweg shop. Address / area: Martin Luther Kingweg, Wanica
Local rules
Access: Directly on Martin Luther Kingweg (called JFK Highway / Highway locally). Huge parking lot in front, accessible from both directions but U-turn needed if coming from Paramaribo. Open structure — ground floor supermarket, upper floor household / storage. No entry fee, pin + cash (SRD). Peak hours: 17:00-19:30 — long queue. Local rules: Standard Warenhuis rules: bags may be checked, no smoking inside, no pets inside shop (outside okay). Highway speed limit 80km/h in front — police radar often near Houttuin. No truck parking in front during market hours — Highway Markt next door is only open Sun/Wed 6AM-3PM. Extra info: This location is often confused with "Highway Markt" — Highway Markt is the open-air farmers market at same road, while Yin Du is the closed supermarket building. Timezone America/Paramaribo UTC-3. Sells: groceries, frozen meats, Chinese products, cleaning, hardware, small appliances. Delivery: not official, but local taxi drivers around Highway do "boodschap service" for SRD 50-75 to Lelydorp/De Nieuwe Grond.

Safety protocols to read before you travel
A01Guided activitiesUse a guide who knows the route and explains the safety arrangements.
Choose a guide through an established operator and ask about route experience, training, equipment and emergency arrangements. Follow the safety briefing, stay with the group and do not undertake an unfamiliar activity alone. Stop when conditions become unsafe.

A03Water recreation and river hazardsCheck physical hazards and fresh-water health risks before an activity.
Ask the guide about currents, rocks, water levels and safe access before any water activity. Wear suitable flotation equipment for boating. Do not dive into unfamiliar water or enter rapids to swim or bathe, and keep children under close supervision. CDC advises avoiding swimming in unchlorinated rivers, lakes and ponds in Suriname because fresh water can carry infections. A locally designated swimming spot does not establish water quality.
